9/11 Firefighter 14'er Memorial Challenge

The annual 9/11 Firefighter 14’er Memorial Challenge began in 2009 as a fundraiser for the FDNY Widows and Children’s Fund. The event was created to honor the 343 firefighters killed in the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centers.

The physically demanding effort required to climb a 14,000 foot peak is symbolic of the physical demand placed on the firefighters who climbed 80-110 flights of stairs to rescue numerous trapped occupants in the Twin Towers.

The Firefighter 14’er allows participants to remember the heroes from that terrible day in a uniquely Colorado way.

In 2010, we partnered with the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF). Their mission is to honor and remember America's fallen fire heroes and to provide assistance and resources to survivors in rebuilding their lives.

Firefighter 14’er, INC, a 501(c)3 non-profit is dedicated to supporting the families of fallen firefighters and the mission of preventing further line of duty deaths through fundraising during our annual event.

The popularity of the 14’ers has continued to grow since 2009. We expect over 150 participants in the 2012 event. This year includes not only a hike of Mt. Evans but a road bike event to the summit.
